Medical bill paid in full after resident sustained injury at bakery.

Grand Rapids, MI – On Saturday February 15, 2020, The Rolling Scones paid Maria Jane’s medical bill after she sustained a bite injury to her hand at the bakery’s charity event.

Jane attended the event, aimed towards raising money and adopting out animals for the Humane Society of West Michigan this past Saturday in hopes of adopting a dog.

Signs were posted at various points in the building warning people to use caution when approaching any of the animals for their own safety. When she reached out her hand to pet one of the shelter dogs, the dog bit at Jane’s hand. Jane suffered minor injuries and is expected to fully recover.

One of The Rolling Scones’ employees Meghan Martinez said, “I was at the entrance to the bakery greeting people as they came inside to view the pets available for adoption. I handed out flyers and told everyone to ask a Humane Society of West Michigan employee for help or permission before interacting with any of the animals.”

Jane later admitted that she had not asked for permission from a Humane Society of West Michigan employee before reaching out to the dog.

The owner of The Rolling Scones Janet Smitty said, “This was an unfortunate accident and the bakery has decided to pay the woman’s medical bill in full. We will remember what happened on Saturday and take more precautionary measures for future events held at The Rolling Scones.”
